The Georgia Sheriffs’ Association (GSA) is recommending that Gov. Kemp suspend Hall County Sheriff Gerald Couch, who was arrested two weeks ago on DUI and other traffic-related charges.

In a letter to Kemp, the group asked that he be suspended “for at least 60 days in order to allow Sheriff Couch proper time & opportunity to regain his health through alcohol counseling & in-patient rehabilitation.”

Couch’s name in on the masthead of the letter. He serves as the association’s 1st Vice President. The letter is signed by Forsyth County Sheriff Ron Freeman, its President, and two other officers.

Kemp has the authority to suspend Couch for up to 60 days with an option to suspend him 30 days more. He has already appointed a committee made up of the Attorney General and two Georgia sheriffs who are supposed to make a recommendation to him within 30 days.
