Local softball teams hit the diamond for the opening round of the state playoffs. Several advanced to the Sweet 16 after dominant performances, while others saw their postseason runs come to a close.
CLASS 3A
#1 Jefferson 2, #32 Mt. Zion, Jonesboro 0
The Lady Dragons cruised into the Sweet 16 with a DH sweep at home against Mt. Zion. They won the first game 17-0, and game two 7-0.
#5 Lumpkin County 2, #28 Riverdale 0
The Lady Indians took back-to-back shutout wins of 15-0 to advance with ease over 28-seeded Riverdale.
#18 Dawson County 2, #15 Peach County 0
The Lady Tigers took game one, 8-0 over Peach County with Lily Hamilton supplying a big homer. In the second game, Peach County went for a 7-run inning to take a big lead. Dawson County rallied with a huge third inning to tie the game at eight apiece. In a see-saw battle, Sadie Dotson gave Dawson a late lead of 12-11 in the 5th on a 2-run shot. They’d go on to win 19-11 with Bryce Greenwood walking it off capping off a 9-run fifth, sending Dawson to the Sweet 16.
#12 SE Bulloch 2, #21 White County 0
SE Bulloch won 2-0 over White County, ending the Lady Warriors season. White Co dropped game one 10-1, and game two 9-2.
CLASS 2A
#15 Union County 1, #18 Murray County 1
Union County split with Murray County, forcing a game three on Thursday. The Lady Panthers won 1-0 before dropping a 2-1 game two.
#16 Stephens County 1, #17 Jackson 1
The teams split the first day, with both taking a 5-2 win, forcing a game three on Thursday.
#19 Franklin County @ #14 Hart County
CLASS 1A DI
#10 Banks County 2, #23 Chattooga 0
The Lady Leopards punched a Sweet 16 ticket with convincing wins over Chattooga of 5-0 and 18-0.
#2 Bremen 2, #31 Commerce 0
Commerce lost the first game 8-0, then game two 12-0 to get ousted from the tournament by Bremen.
CLASS 1A DII
#1 Baconton 2, #4 Towns County 0
The Lady Indians lost both games against Baconton, 12-4 and 22-6, ending their season.
