When the powers that be in college football expanded the playoff to an unnecessarily large 12 team field today was the day they had in mind.
It’s a full day of must-see college football action that kicks at off at noon with Miami traveling to Kyle Field to take on the Texas A&M Aggies. How many interceptions will Carson Beck and Marcel Reed combine for? I’m putting the over/under at 4.9. The one whose final pick is the least crippling is probably the quail the winning team.
Then Tulane travels to Oxford at 3:30 to take on Ole Miss for the right to face Georgia on New Year’s Day in the Sugar Bowl. The Rebels beat the Green Wave by 35 in the regular season, but that was before both teams’ head coaches decided to take other jobs. A win by Tulane would keep Lane Kiffin from collecting the bonus the desperate crowd at LSU promised him if the team he isn’t even coaching advances. It would also keep Jon Sumrall in New Orleans that much longer, and away from actually preparing to coach the Florida Gators. In short, you should be pulling for the Green Wave, even if the odds are decidedly against them.
Finally, James Madison travels to Eugene to take on Dan Lanning’s Oregon Ducksin the prime time slot. This is a choice based more on geography than viewing interest because it’s the game least likely to make for compelling night time viewing. If Oregon doesn’t dismantle the Dukes I’ll be shocked.
You’ll find all three games across the House of Mouse industrial complex, including ABC and ESPN. This will be the spot for game specific discussion, general playoff observations, and unrelated holiday hijinx.
Go ‘Dawgs!!!
