Proposed mixed-use and duplex apartment developments are on the agenda for this week’s Gainesville City Council meeting as well as a number of new year organizational items.

The mixed-use development is planned for an eight-acre site on Old Athens Road between Harrison Square and Harrison Drive. Candler Development Services wants the tract rezoned from Residential II (R-II) to Planned Unit Development (P-U-D).

The duplex would be located on half-an-acre in the 1400 block of Dorothy Drive. Jesus Carrillo is requesting that the property be annexed and zoned R-II.

The organizational items include the swearing in of Mayor-elect Zack Thompson and councilwoman Abigal Guzman to a full four-year term. Guzman has been serving the unexpired term of the late councilman George Wangemann and was elected to the post during a special election in the Spring of 2024.
