Filming is underway in Georgia for Driver’s Ed, a new teen road trip comedy directed by Bobby Farrelly. Production began in North Carolina back in March and officially transitioned to Georgia on June 13. The shoot is expected to continue in the state through July 2 with Destination Casting handling the background casting duties.
About the Film
Directed by Bobby Farrelly, Driver’s Ed is being produced and financed by AGC Studios, with additional support from BondIt Media Capital. The film is part of a new young adult slate developed by Jonas and Jennifer Pate, with a focus on cost-efficient, character-driven stories.
Cast and Characters
The cast features Sam Nivola in the lead role, alongside Kumail Nanjiani and Molly Shannon. Also joining the cast are Sophie Telegadis (One Stupid Thing), Mohana Krishnan (It Lives Inside), Aidan Laprete (The Wilds), and Lilah Pate (Outer Banks). Alyssa Milano is also set to appear in the film.
The story follows a group of teens who impulsively steal their school’s driver’s ed car and hit the road. Their mission? To help high school senior Jeremy (Nivola) track down his college-freshman girlfriend, Samantha (Pate), and win her back.
Sophie Telegadis plays Evie, an art school-bound teen who has distanced herself from her old social circle. Mohana Krishnan appears as Aparna, an anxious senior with dreams of MIT. Aidan Laprete takes on the role of Yoshi, a dealer masking his emotions with sarcasm. Pate portrays Samantha, the college girlfriend who has grown distant since moving away.
Production and Direction
The script is written by Thomas Moffett (Shrink, An Actor Prepares), and the film marks the next directorial project for Bobby Farrelly, known for comedies like Champions, Dumb and Dumber, and There’s Something About Mary.
While Driver’s Ed is firmly a teen comedy, it’s worth noting that director Bobby Farrelly’s longtime collaborator and brother, Peter Farrelly, once competed for the Star Wars director’s chair. The Farrelly brothers were rumored to be briefly considered for a Star Wars spinoff before Disney went in a different direction—a reminder of how wide-ranging their Hollywood influence has been.
A release date for Driver’s Ed has not yet been announced.
