CLARKESVILLE, Ga. — The Habersham County Sheriff’s Office has arrested an out-of-state resident on child molestation charges following an investigation that began earlier this month.

Michael Shane Foster, 49, believed to be from Florida, was taken into custody on November 4 after being interviewed by Habersham County investigators. He faces charges related to the alleged molestation of a male juvenile at a Clarkesville residence.

Allegations of grooming and inappropriate contact

According to the sheriff’s office, the investigation centers on events between October 31 and November 3. Foster reportedly met the juvenile through a family member and began communicating with him over FaceTime. During those calls, Foster allegedly told the ninth-grader he was “homosexual” and that he thought the boy was “hot.”

The family member who introduced them grew concerned, suspecting that Foster was “grooming” the boy and attempting to establish a sexual relationship. That person confronted Foster directly, telling him to “leave him alone,” according to the report.

School principal reported alleged abuse

The situation escalated on Halloween when Foster flew from Florida to visit the family member and the child in Habersham County. The juvenile later described Foster’s behavior as “really weird,” saying he seemed to be “on drugs.”

Investigators allege that during the visit, Foster was alone with the boy in a bedroom and touched him inappropriately. The child disclosed the alleged abuse on November 3 to his school principal, who immediately notified the Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS).

Foster remains in custody at the Habersham County Detention Center as of this report.
