BALDWIN, Ga. — Baldwin Police are warning residents to be on alert after an injured bear fled into a residential area following a crash on Highway 365 near Kudzu Hill Thursday afternoon, October 30.

According to police, the bear was struck by a vehicle and appeared to be seriously hurt but survived the collision. Officers searched the woods near the scene but were unable to locate the animal. They believe the bear made its way toward the B.C. Grant Road area.

Police say residents should be cautious, noting that an injured bear may be more aggressive if approached. They are urging anyone in the Baldwin and Alto area not to leave children or pets outside unattended until the bear is located.

If you see the bear on your property, call Habersham County Dispatch at 706-778-3911. Authorities ask the public not to approach the animal and to use extra care if they encounter it.

Now Habersham will update this story as more information becomes available.
