A photographer is rethinking his choice to “immediately shut down” a groom’s wedding photo request.
In a new post on Reddit’s “Am I the A——” forum, the wedding photographer, 30, asked Redditors if he was in the wrong for refusing a special photo request from a groom “hours before the wedding” last weekend. As they were wrapping up their pre-ceremony photo session, the groom and his groomsmen spontaneously decided they wanted to recreate their college fraternity “rush” photo.
“To my surprise, the groom and five of the groomsmen all started removing their pants, right their on the lawn of the venue,” the photographer recalled. “I asked what was happening. A groomsmen took out his phone and showed me a photo of them in college, during what looked like hazing, where they all had to a lap around their university in boxers.”

He continues, “Apparently at all of their weddings they like to recreate the photo by taking a picture of just their dress shirts, jackets, ties, and boxers/other underwear.”
Feeling “uncomfortable,” the photographer “immediately shut it down.”
“Not only is it tacky, but we were on the lawn. Granted, the only people around were staff, but I do a lot of work at this venue and wanted to keep a good relationship,” he said.
Although the groom “looked kind of pissed off,” the photographer stood his ground.
The self-proclaimed “good” photographer was one of several hired for the big day, but his “main job was to photograph the groom, his groomsmen, and the groom’s family.” Before agreeing to shoot the celebration, the photographer asked the groom if he had any special photo requests, to which he noted he “wanted to take a lot of photos” with his groomsmen because “they were all very close from their frat days” but he didn’t specify what the specific shots were.

“They were disappointed their needs were not met,” the photographer said.

Most Redditors deemed the “snob” photographer as the one in the wrong in this scenario. They argued that because it was not his special day, he didn’t have the right to make calls based on his personal taste, even if the photo request was “childish and immature.”

“Not your job to worry about if something is tacky. And it’s not like they got naked,” the top comment reads.
Another individual agreed, writing, “Seems like OP (original poster)’s objection was their disapproval of the content. Doesn’t matter if you think it’s tacky OP, you’re not a hired moral compass.”
