Paul Skenes knows how to unwind.
The Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher, 23, spoke with PEOPLE exclusively about how he plans to spend his MLB off-season — and to no surprise, it includes enjoying time with his longtime girlfriend Livvy Dunne.
“We’re in Florida now, live close to the water. I just like getting on the water,” Skenes says about where the couple likes to spend time, while on a Zoom call with PEOPLE, with Dunne calling in from New York.

“He’s in California. I’m in New York. This is the first time we haven’t been together in so long. Of course we’re doing the interview now when we’re not together, but it’s all right,” Dunne jokes.
Dunne revealed in early October that she bought a home in South Florida in a video shared to TikTok, a residency update that followed a saga of house-hunting in New York City.
Since then, Skenes has spent time with Dunne in Florida, which is why the couple shared with PEOPLE their favorite activities to do together while there.

Both the MLB star and retired gymnast enjoy spending time on their boat.
“It’s just nice to get out and we like to go down the Intercostal and look at houses,” shares Skenes.
Dunne adds, “Imma fish!”
“Yeah, she likes to fish,” the pitcher chimes in, proudly. “She likes to fish more than I do!” he adds.

Skenes, who was named 2025 NL Cy Young Award winner on the heels of winning 2024 Rookie of the Year, makes time to work out during the off-season. After that, though, it’s all about relaxation.
“Honestly, that’s kind of how I slow it down,” he shares. “Just the day-to-day train in the morning and then go on the boat, do something like that in the afternoon. It’s a good way to spend a day.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Skenes opened up about winning the Cy Young Award this year.
“I appreciate it,” he says of the honor. “That’s something that I think a lot of pitchers shoot for. Call it a motivation, whatever you want to call it, I think a lot of guys are shooting for that, and I think that’s indicative of a really good season.”

“I am very honored to win it. I just think it’s kind of funny how it all works out. It’s the premier recognition, premier award for a pitcher in the major league,” he adds. “So it’s pretty dang cool. Just got to keep going and hopefully there’s some more team accomplishments next year.”

“It means a lot to me,” the retired gymnast says of her boyfriend winning the award. “Everything he accomplishes is so well-deserved because I see what he does everyday and it’s a lot of stuff. I mean, he acts like he enjoys doing it every day, but I mean you just can’t enjoy it every single day.”
She adds, “He does so much. It’s doing it when you don’t want to do it and I see it, and it’s incredible that somebody at his age has accomplished what he has. It’s cool that I get to be by his side while he does it.”
