One driver suffers minor injuries in Gainesville wreck

A wreck in Gainesville on Wednesday left one driver with minor injuries.

According to the Georgia State Patrol (GSP),  28-year-old Joshua Alcorn of Cumming was traveling north on Ga. 365/Cornelia Highway in a Freightliner truck while two vehicles were on YMCA Drive at the intersection with the highway.

Both drivers on YMCA Drive, 37-year-old Derrek Oscarson of Acworth and 69-year-old Paul Kerstoff of Clermont, said their light turned green.

It was at that time Alcorn switched lanes to pass two tractor-trailers. Alcorn said he didn’t realize the light had turned red, and struck Oscarson’s GMC Sierra.

Both vehicles rotated and came to a rest on opposite sides of the highway, while debris from the wreck his Kerstoff’s Honda Ridgeline.

Oscarson was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt at the time, and suffered minor injuries. He was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) Gainesville for his injuries.
