CLARKESVILLE, Ga. — North Georgia Technical College (NGTC) has received the first-ever Embark Georgia Center Campus Partner Award, recognizing its exceptional commitment to students who have experienced foster care or homelessness.

The award, presented by the Embark Georgia Center at the University of Georgia’s J.W. Fanning Institute for Leadership Development, honors colleges that go above and beyond to improve access, support, and retention for these students.

“We are honored to receive this recognition from Embark Georgia,” said NGTC President John Wilkinson. “North Georgia Tech is committed to helping every student succeed, no matter their background or circumstances. This award reflects the incredible work of our team and our shared belief that education can truly change lives.”

Through its partnership with Embark Georgia, NGTC has launched a campus food pantry, offered housing support between semesters, and trained staff in Mental Health First Aid.

Dr. Fran Chastain, the college’s Designated Point of Contact for students in foster care or homelessness, said the collaboration has been life-changing. “It’s inspiring to work alongside Embark Georgia and see firsthand how much difference this partnership makes for students,” she said. “We’ve made tremendous progress, but there’s always more we can do to ensure these students have the tools and support they need to succeed.”

In 2025, NGTC and Embark Georgia cohosted the Summer Experience Program, bringing 26 high school students to NGTC, the University of Georgia, and the University of North Georgia for a week of hands-on career exploration and college-readiness activities.
