MVDs: Mississippi State Edition

You don’t just waltz into Starkville, Mississippi and waltz out with a dominating SEC victory and a pint of famous Muscadine ripple ice cream without a total team effort. Still, Even in that instance, some (Georgia) Bulldogs are bound to distinguish themselves above and beyond the crowd. These are your MVDs, the Most Valuable ’Dawgs from Georgia’s 41–21 victory over Mississippi State.

Offense: Nate Frazier. A career day (181 yards on 12 carries) for Frazier earns this award going away. Frazier had a 59 yard touchdown run and another 31 yard scamper, but had an all-around great day running behind a Bulldog offensive line that pushed the Maroon and White around for most of the afternoon.

Defense: Raylen Wilson. Again, I could select CJ Allen every week. But I moved over one spot in the linebacker lineup to choose Wilson, who finished with 6 tackles (including 4 solo stops), a team-leading 1.5 sacks and even a pass breakup. Wilson was in MSU quarterback Blake Shapens’ face for most of the first half, and that pressure was a big part of the six straight scoreless drives that allowed the Bulldogs to pull away.

Special Teams: Brett Thorson. The Thunder from Down Under got back on track after a rough game last week, landing both of his two punts on the day inside the 20. I’m not saying those punts were mission-critical, but I thought the bounce back was worth recognizing.

Go ‘Dawgs!!!
