Monday ‘Dawg Bites

Wake up, ‘Dawgs! We’ve got a big one this weekend.

As you’re probably already aware Georgia hosts #10 Texas Saturday night in Sanford Stadium. The Athenians opened as a 6.5 point favorite over the Longhorns, implying that the ‘Dawgs would be only a slight favorite on a neutral field. Given Texas’s struggles against some inferior competition so far this season, it feels like the folks in Vegas are counting on Sark to have Glenn Schumann’s number on defense, which might not be that hazardous an assumption if we’re being honest.

On the other side of the ball, our friends at Burnt Orange Nation hope the Longhorns defense got healthier and tightened things up in the secondary during their bye week.

While the Georgia/Texas game will certainly be in the running for the biggest game on the weekend slated for, it won’t be the site of ESPN’s College Gameday. That’s going to be the University of Pittsburgh, which is hosting #9 Notre Dame. Personally I’m far past the point of caring about that particular traveling circus coming to town. I think it’s a great barometer reading for the program that Bulldog fans generally dont seem to need that particular fake juice to get up for this kind of contest.

Away from Sanford Stadium, Mike White’s Hoop Hounds continued their torrid offensive start Sunday with a 120-81 victory over Morehead State. Ben Wolk over at Dawgs247 has a nice roundup of the takeaways from the game, including the role of big man Kanon Catchings. The BYU transfer is averaging 12.3 points and 6 rebounds per game so far, bringing a versatile presence to the lineup that White’s scheme definitely needs. As is our practice, this will be the extent of UGA basketball coverage until we’re certain this team is going to rip our hearts out, at which point we’ll dive right in. Until later…

Go ‘‘Dawgs!!!
