Michael Jackson fans are getting a glimpse of the first footage from the King of Pop’s big-screen biopic.
A teaser trailer for Michael was unveiled on Thursday, Nov. 6, featuring star Jaafar Jackson, son of Michael’s brother Jermaine, recreating the late music sensation’s vocals and moves.
Michael is directed by Antoine Fuqua and costars Juliano Krue Valdi as young Michael, Colman Domingo as Michael’s father and manager Joe, Nia Long as Michael’s mother Katherine, Kat Graham as fellow Motown star Diana Ross, and Miles Teller as lawyer and manager John Branca.
Jaafar can be seen wearing his uncle’s iconic costuming and wide-brimmed hats onstage, executing the electric choreography “that led him to become the the biggest entertainer in the world,” as the movie’s synopsis states.
“Highlighting both his life off-stage and some of the most iconic performances from his early solo career, the film gives audiences a front-row seat to Michael Jackson as never before,” the synopsis reads. “This is where his story begins.”

Among the biopic’s producers is Graham King, who helped bring Freddie Mercury’s story to the big screen in the award-winning hit Bohemian Rhapsody.
Fresh off his Oscar nomination for Rustin, Domingo, 55, told PEOPLE in February that he was “having a good time” filming Michael.
Of Joe, who died in 2018 and had a complicated relationship with his 11 children, the actor said, “I seem to be on the track of interrogating some of these real-life human beings. I want to find their humanity, I want to find their heart and their humor. It may go against public opinion sometimes, but I think that’s my responsibility to find the complex version of these people.”

As for Jaafar, Michael’s filmmakers have sung the rising star’s praises. “It’s incredibly exciting to watch Jaafar bring Michael to life,” Fuqua, 60, said in a statement to Variety. “There was such a spiritual connection when I first met Jaafar, who has a natural ability to emulate Michael and such a great chemistry with the camera.”
Teller, 38, told Variety in March that he had “gotten to hang out with” the real-life Branca “a little bit.”
He added, “Regardless of what you know or what your opinion may be, Michael is one of the greatest to ever do it, if not the greatest. … He deserves a movie, and I’m excited to be a part of it.”
Michael is in theaters April 24.
