Government scientist says most people not vaccinated against strain that has led to 15 cases and two deaths
Government scientists have identified the type of meningitis behind a fatal outbreak in Kent as a strain that most people have not been vaccinated against as it emerged that 15 cases had been identified.
Gayatri Amirthalingam, the deputy director of immunisation and vaccine preventable diseases at the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), said tests showed it was the bacterial strain B of the disease, as pharmacies warned that vaccines against this strain were running low.
