In December, the spice maker named the black currant as its 2026 Flavor of the Year.
Black currants are berries that are native to parts of central and northern Europe and northern Asia. They have a tart-and-tangy, yet sweet flavor reminiscent of a harmonious blend of grapes and raspberries.

In addition to being popular in jams and cocktails, the berries are said to be rich in antioxidants, contain several vitamins and nutrients, and boost the immune system, according to Healthline.
They are also said to help with joint and muscle pain and help with dry eyes, Healthline reported.
This year, the black currant was named the top honor for its “versatility in foods and drinks,” making it a strong fit for the top 2026 trends — Attainable Opulence, Simple to Spectacular, and Sauce From Somewhere.
