A Texas man is dead after an argument over French fries got out of control on Wednesday.

Officers with the Fort Worth Police Department were dispatched to an apartment complex near the 9500 block of Jeremiah Dr. after reports of a shooting around 6:30 p.m. local time on Wednesday, Jan. 28, police said in a release shared with PEOPLE.

It is there that officers located an adult male with an apparent gunshot wound to his head.

Officers rendered CPR on the male until they were relieved by Fort Worth Fire EMS. The victim was then transported to a local hospital for continued medical treatment.

The Fort Worth Police Department said that the victim did not survive his injuries and was pronounced dead “several hours later.”

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will positively identify the victim as well as determine the cause and manner of death.

PEOPLE has reached out to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office for comment.

An investigation by detectives with the Gun Violence Unit showed that ahead of the incident, a fight between friends had taken place.

“The argument started over an order of French fries that the victim did not want to share with the suspect, and a verbal argument between the two escalated to a shooting,” the press release said.

Although the suspect fled the apartment after the shooting, detectives interviewed multiple witnesses who identified the suspect shooter. Their identity was not released.

While the suspect is known to have lived in the same apartment complex, officers searched the area and the suspect’s apartment, but did not locate them.
