The Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) took to Facebook on Friday to warn residents of an ongoing scam in the area.

Lumpkin authorities say that if you have someone you know incarcerated at their detention center and receive a call claiming to be from the sheriff’s office asking for money to place an ankle monitor on them or to secure their release, it’s a scam.

They remind residents that they will never call and request payment over the phone for release, bond, or monitoring equipment.

They also say to not give out any personal or financial information, but hang up and contact them directly to verify any claims. Their phone number is (706) 864-0414.
