As the 71st Annual Gold Rush Days begin this morning in Dahlonega, Lumpkin County authorities are advising the public to expect traffic delays in the area.

The Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office issued a statement on social media Friday afternoon, saying delays will be heaviest around the downtown Dahlonega square where the festivities are taking place.

“We appreciate everyone’s patience as visitors come out to enjoy this great community event,” the sheriff’s office said.

The festivities started with the Gold Rush 5K sponsored by the Dahlonega Rotary at 8:00 a.m. Saturday, October 18, with the festival officially opening to the public at 9:00 a.m. The festival will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
