Lily Allen‘s split from ex David Harbour seems to be water under the bridge.
In conversation with Interview Magazine on Tuesday, Oct. 28, the English singer opened up about the making of her latest studio album West End Girl, which is largely about the breakdown of her marriage.
Early on in the conversation, Allen, 40, was asked if she was on a “revenge tour.”
“It isn’t. I mean, I wrote this record in 10 days in December and I feel very differently about the whole situation now,” the singer-songwriter said of her split from the 50-year-old Stranger Things actor.
Adding, “We all go through breakups and it’s always f—ing brutal. But I don’t think it’s that often that you feel inclined to write about it while you’re in it.”
The “Smile” artist further explained that she was telling a story — and that’s what’s “fun about this record.”

“It’s viscerally like going through the motions,” she said. “At the time, I was really trying to process things and that’s great in terms of the album, but I don’t feel confused or angry now. I don’t need revenge.”
In a press release for the album on Oct. 24, Allen said that the album is a mix of fact and fiction.
“I’ve tried to document my life in a new city and the events that led me to where I am in my life now. At the same time, I’ve used shared experiences as the basis for songs which try to delve into why we humans behave as we do, so the record is a mixture of fact and fiction,” she said in the release.
In a recent interview with British Vogue, Allen opened up about how her marriage inspired West End Girl.
“There are things that are on the record that I experienced within my marriage, but that’s not to say that it’s all gospel,” she said. “It is inspired by what went on in the relationship.”

PEOPLE confirmed that Allen and Harbour, 50, had separated after four years of marriage in February.
“Her marriage has been crumbling,” an insider told PEOPLE exclusively, “and they have split.”
Speaking with Perfect Magazine on Tuesday, Oct. 21, Allen got candid about the difficulties of dating again — and said the dating scene was “much harder” to navigate than it was six years ago.
“It’s bitterly disappointing. There’s an element of humiliation and shame around it,” she said. “The world doesn’t portray women of my age as being desirable. And it just feels like climbing up a mountain.”
