Bruce Lane will be the next mayor of Lula.
Lane defeated Amanda Leigh Browning for the mayoral seat in Tuesday night’s municipal elections, winning 68.83% of the vote to Browning’s 31.17%.
Lane, who has lived in the city for 22 years, will replace outgoing Mayor Joe Thomas, who announced earlier that he would not seek re-election. Lane has worked for more than 40 years in the transportation industry.
He said his work there has prepared him to help Lula navigate the continued residential growth that has been moving up the Ga. 365 corridor.
“Infrastructure is not in place for all this growth that is coming,” Lane said in an interview with AccessWDUN prior to Tuesday’s election. “I want to see responsible growth. I’m not saying growth is bad. Growth is coming and we’ve got two choices: we can either accept it or reject it.”
Lane has also expressed interest in bringing a police department to the city, citing concerns that as it grows it could put strain on sheriff’s offices in Hall and Banks counties.
“Lula is going to double in size. Is that feasible for Hall County to be able to patrol and take care of?” Lane said.
