Netflix’s Heartland, a new mystery thriller headlined by Academy Award-winner Jessica Chastain, is currently filming in Georgia under the code name HTLD. The film began shooting September 29, 2025, with production set in Atlanta, Georgia and Nashville, Tennessee, and will be running through mid-November. Extras Casting Atlanta (ECA) is handling the background casting duties.
A New Role for Jessica Chastain
Chastain takes on the lead role of Misty Jones, a former country music star who emerges from seclusion when her niece goes missing. Misty’s search for answers pulls her into Nashville’s shadows, forcing her to confront long-buried wounds while uncovering a dangerous world where nothing is as it seems.
The missing niece will be played by Carter Faith, the rising country music artist making her screen debut. Joining the cast is Oscar-nominee John Hawkes, though details about his role remain under wraps.
The Creative Team Behind Heartland
The film is directed and co-written by Shana Feste, known for Country Strong and Run Sweetheart Run. Feste co-wrote the script and brings her mix of drama and thriller expertise to this project.
Production is backed by Chernin Entertainment and Sandbox Entertainment, with Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, Jason Owen, Randall Poster, and Tracy Cook producing. Jeff Valeri serves as line producer, and Jason Graham is the production manager. Casting director Richard Hicks, whose credits span multiple acclaimed films, is overseeing the cast.
Filming will take place at Shadowbox Studios in Atlanta before moving on to Nashville for key location work.

Not to Be Confused with the Long-Running Series
This Heartland should not be mistaken for the Canadian family drama of the same name that has spanned 18 seasons. Netflix’s Heartland is an entirely new, standalone story.
