The Jackson EMC Foundation recently awarded $95,920 in grant money during a recent meeting, including $41,120 to six organizations that serve Hall County.
- $10,500 was awarded to Ferst Readers of Hall County, which supplies books and literacy resources for children and their families.
- $9,900 was awarded to Diamond in the Rough Youth Development, Inc. in Snellville, which offers leadership training and career coaching for girls ages 4 to 18 in Barrow, Gwinnett, and Hall Counties.
- $6,720 was awarded to the Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia, Inc., in Athens to support 60 girls in newly-formed troops in Barrow, Athens-Clarke, Hall, Jackson, and Lumpkin Counties.
- $5,000 was awarded to Comics Appreciation Project in Bogart, which enhances literacy through comics to purchase books for children in medical crisis in Barrow, Banks, Athens-Clarke, Franklin, Hall, Jackson, and Lumpkin Counties.
- $5,000 was awarded to Whispering Angels Youth Ranch in Gainesville, which promotes healing for youth through mentorship and horses in Banks, Hall, and Gwinnett Counties.
- and $4,000 was awarded to Bloom Enterprises of Georgia, Inc., in Gainesville which supports adults with special needs.
The Jackson EMC Foundation is the non-profit arm of the electric cooperative. Their grants are made possible by the 223,150 cooperative members who have their monthly bills rounded to the next dollar through their “Operation Round Up” program.
2,100 grants to organizations and 439 grants to individuals have put more than $22-million back into local communities since the program began in 2005.
