HABERSHAM COUNTY – An intoxicated man was arrested Thursday evening after authorities received reports of a suspicious person walking in the area of Garrison Road and Mud Creek Road, allegedly waving a handgun and threatening self-harm.
Incident and apprehension
At approximately 4:30 PM on November 14, 2025, Habersham County deputies were dispatched to the ares of New Garrison and Mud Creek Road after receiving calls about a suspicious white male, initially described as wearing a black coat, black hat, black backpack, and khaki pants. Callers told dispatch the man was waving a handgun and had made a statement that he would kill himself. Dispatch further informed deputies that the callers had heard four gunshots.
Numerous deputies conducted a search of the area and located the male, identified as Linton Adams, near 2448 Mud Creek Road. At the time of his arrest, Adams was only wearing a t-shirt, ripped pants, and socks. Deputies located a black jacket on a nearby fence, which contained ammunition in the pocket, and one tennis shoe was found at the bottom of the fence.
Investigation details
Adams admitted to deputies that he was drunk and stated he had walked from his brother’s residence on Homer Stephens Rd, intending to walk to the grocery store to buy more alcohol. When questioned about the firearm, he denied having or firing a gun. According to there report, Adams appeared visibly distressed, with bloodshot, watery eyes, crying, and snot running down his face.
During a search of the area, deputies located a small black velvety bag containing four bullets (possibly .22 long caliber). A resident across the street from Jared Rd told an officer he heard four gunshots originating from the area of the stop sign at Jared Rd and Mud Creek Rd.
The firearm used was not located. Sheriff Krockum said, “should the public locate the gun, please do not touch it, just call dispatch and our deputies will respond to retrieve it”.
Adams was transported to the Habersham County Detention Center and turned over to jail staff without incident.

- Reckless conduct
- Discharging a firearm while under the influence
- Discharging a firearm near a roadway
