CLEVELAND, Ga. — Emergency crews rescued an injured hiker from Mount Yonah Monday afternoon after the person fell and couldn’t move.
According to authorities, White County E-911 received the call around 2:30 p.m. on October 20. White County Fire Services, EMS, and the Emergency Management Agency (EMA) quickly responded to the Mount Yonah Trailhead off Chambers Road.

Firefighters equipped with wildland rescue gear entered from the main trailhead. White County EMA deployed its drone to help locate the individual and guide rescuers. They “located the individual approximately one mile up the trail,” said White County Public Information Officer Bryce Barrett.
Using a Stokes basket, crews carried the male hiker down the mountain to safety. Firefighters from Lee Arrendale State Prison helped with the rescue.

An ambulance transported the hiker to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville for treatment. The rescue took about two hours. Crews cleared the scene around 4:30 p.m.
