A hearing has been set after Barrow County resident Alecia Behlog took legal action against the county for allegedly violating the Georgia Open Meetings Act.

Behlog filed the Petition for a Writ of Mandamus in the Barrow County Superior Court on Oct. 6 following a July meeting when the county’s divestment from the School Resource Officer (SRO) program was allegedly added on right before agenda approval.

The county responded in November, denying many of Behlog’s claims.

“Citizens have a right to know about what goes on in the government. We deserve the right for our voices to be heard. Open government is not optional, it’s the law,” Behlog said to AccessWDUN in October.

Behlog’s original filing included three counts. Count one was for failure by the county to abide by the Georgia Open Meetings Act, count two was for failure by the county to make true statements to government agencies, and count three was for failure by the county to abide by the code of ethics for government service.

The county denied any wrongdoing for all three counts.

A hearing at the Barrow County Courthouse has been set for Dec. 8 at 2 p.m. according to a Tuesday filing.
