The Hall County Animal Shelter will showcase its new mobile adoption unit on Sunday, Dec. 7, during the City of Gainesville’s Christmas on Green Street parade.

“We look forward to Christmas on Green Street each year, but this year is especially exciting for us, because we are decorating our new mobile adoption unit and lighting it up for all to see,” Hall County Animal Shelter Manager Stephanie Maloch said.

The shelter’s new $80,000 mobile adoption unit was purchased in April and funded by multiple grants from Petco Love, a national nonprofit organization that supports lifesaving work for pets in Hall County and beyond.

“We are extremely grateful for our partnership with Petco Love,” Maloch said. “Over the years, we have received several grants from the organization under the requirement that funds be used for lifesaving measures. This new, state-of-the-art adoption unit will allow us to do just that.”

The new unit is a custom-built, 24-foot trailer that can hold up to 53 animals in its stainless-steel interior. It is well-insulated, with a built-in generator for heating and air conditioning, and includes top-of-the-line features, such as running water and a drainage system for easy cleanup.

“One of the best things about this new unit is the adoption window, which opens from the outside so that people can view our adoptable pets without us having to take them out of the trailer. This allows us to bring more pets, including cats, which we’ve never been able to do before, regardless of how many staff members and volunteers we have on site at an event,” Maloch said.

Adoptable pets will be featured in the unit during the Christmas on Green Street parade.

To browse the Hall County Animal Shelter’s adoptable pets online, including those pets featured in the unit during the parade, visit hallcounty.org or stop by the shelter at 1688 Barber Road in Gainesville during regular business hours on Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

All adoption fees will be half off throughout the month of December as part of the shelter’s annual participation in the Bissell Pet Foundation’s “Empty the Shelter” adoption event and its in-house “Santa Paws” initiative.
