A chain of two early-morning crashes shut down the southbound lanes of GA 365 near Mt. Zion Road on Monday, according to preliminary findings released by the Georgia State Patrol.

The first crash happened around 4:30 a.m. as two southbound vehicles traveled in the right lane. Troopers say a vehicle driven by Senahid Hasanovic, 51, of Alto, was following too closely behind a truck towing a concrete mixer. Hasanovic’s vehicle struck the rear of the mixer, causing his car to rotate and come to rest in the middle of the southbound lanes. No one was injured. Hasanovic was cited for following too closely. The truck’s driver, 30-year-old Juan Ramirez of Cornelia, was not hurt.

A second crash occurred shortly afterward in the left lane as traffic backed up from the initial wreck. According to GSP, a vehicle driven by Dotsie Ramey, 49, of Clarkesville, struck the rear of another vehicle that had stopped because of the first crash. Ramey was also cited for following too closely and was not injured.

The driver of the second vehicle, Michael Butler, 39, of Demorest, was hurt and taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville. His condition has not been released.

Both crashes contributed to the full closure of GA 365 southbound for several hours during the morning commute.
