A 14-year-old girl died after being struck by a pickup truck while walking home from school in Texas.

According to the Flower Mound Police Department, the fatal incident happened on Tuesday, Dec. 2, when authorities were summoned following a collision between a single vehicle and a pedestrian at the intersection of Valley Ridge Boulevard and Browning Drive in Flower Mound.

“The pedestrian, a 14-year-old Flower Mound resident, was transported by the Flower Mound Fire Department to Medical City Denton Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries,” the department said.

The police’s preliminary investigation found that the driver of a 2020 Chevrolet pickup had stopped at the stop sign facing south in the 6000 block of Browning Road. However, as the girl was crossing the street, she was hit by the truck. She has been identified as Isha Mishra, according to ABC affiliate WFAA, NBC affiliate KXAS and CBS affiliate KTVT.

Authorities added that the 60-year-old Lewisville driver was not injured and remained at the scene. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.

It is unknown if charges have been filed in the incident. A spokesperson for the Flower Mound Police Department told PEOPLE on Thursday, Dec. 4, that there have been no new updates in the case.

The deadly crash happened as Mishra was walking home from school, just three minutes away from the scene, WFAA reported.

School district officials, who did not respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment, told the outlets that their “thoughts are with the family during this very difficult time.”

Following her death, her uncle Sambit Mishra told KXAS that he just hoped “wherever she is that she’s happy.” He added that Isha loved to sing and dance and dreamed of a career that allowed her to help others.
