The Georgia High School Association will hear reclassification appeals from 52 schools on Monday morning at 9:30 at the GHSA office in Thomaston, Ga.

Among those schools are two from Hall County, Flowery Branch and Johnson, both of which landed in Class 5A. The remaining Hall County schools will be housed in Class 4A last week. Gainesville will play in Class 6A.

Both Johnson and Flowery Branch were hit hard by the 3.0 multiplier — the GHSA multiplies each out-of-district student by 3.

Johnson’s raw numbers, without the multiplier, are 1,235. With the 3.0 multiplier, Johnson is boosted to 1415.

Meanwhile, Flowery Branch has 139 out-of-district students. While their actual enrollment number is 1243, the multiplier pushes the school’s enrollment to 1,521 students.

The highest school in Class 4A, before any schools move up or down, is Clarkston with 1,384 students. Clarkston reports no out-of-district students.

Sources say both Hall County schools will present their arguments to move down to Class 4A. If they are successful, all Hall County schools would be in the same classification.

The GHSA also released the number of schools that requested to play up in a higher classification.

Moving from Class A to 2A: Technical Career Magnet, Davidson Fine Arts, A.R. Johnson, Coretta Scott King.

Moving from Class 2A to Class 3A: Towers and McNair.

Pace Academy will move from Class 2A to 4A. Johnson of Savannah will move from Class 3A to 4A. Marist will move from Class 3A to 5A. Benedictine will move from Class 4A to 5A, and Cedar Shoals and Walnut Grove will move from Class 5A to 6A.

Check back throughout the day for updates from the GHSA.
