THOMASTON, Ga. — The Georgia High School Association fired back late Wednesday after Gainesville High School won its court ruling against the organization.

The GHSA released a statement saying that Gainesville’s quarterfinal showdown with No. 1 Hughes on Friday has been postponed until further notice. The move came after it suspended 38 Gainesville players following a fight with Brunswick last week in the second round of the Class 5A playoffs Monday and upheld that decision Tuesday.

The action came after Hall County Superior Court Judge Clint Bearden granted Gainesville an injunction on the suspension of the players as the Red Elephants were preparing to play the Panthers.

GHSA STATEMENT in an email is below:

Adam and Lamarr,

The Georgia High School Association is filing an appeal of the court decision today. As a result, Friday’s game between Gainesville High School and Hughes High School will be postponed until a decision on the appeal is reached. We will reschedule the game once the appeal decision has been rendered.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Respectfully,
Tim Scott
Executive Director
