GAINESVILLE — A pedestrian was killed Tuesday morning after being struck by an Amtrak train on Athens Street near Purina Drive, according to the Gainesville Police Department.
Emergency crews responded to the scene, and following the cleanup, the roads were open again around 9:45 a.m. Police said the pedestrian was on the tracks when they were hit. The individual died from their injuries.
Police urged drivers to use alternate routes while first responders worked the scene. The victim’s identity has not been released.
