A Gainesville man won $10,000 playing the Georgia Millionaire scratcher from the Georgia Lottery on his wife’s birthday.
The Georgia Lottery said Preston Fuqua bought the ticket on Friday, Nov. 14, at Chevron, 4163 Price Road in Gainesville.
Fuqua took the day off to do housework and take his wife out to eat. When he called her to tell her what he won, she did not believe him.
She was finally convinced when he went to pick up his winnings from the Georgia Lottery office in Duluth and sent her a picture of himself with the big check.
“I gave my wife some money for Christmas, and then the rest is in a savings account,” Fuqua said. “I’m going to hold on to it. Well, it’s sitting in a savings account now, but I’m sure it’s going to be blown on fishing equipment!”
Georgia Millionaire offers players the chance to win instant cash prizes up to $10,000 and entry into a special second-chance drawing where three players will each win $1 million on New Year’s Day, becoming the first new millionaires of the year.
Players can purchase Georgia Millionaire tickets at Georgia Lottery retailers statewide. Non-winning tickets can be entered at SecondChanceGA.com for a chance to win one of three $1 million prizes announced on New Year’s Day.
