A Gainesville man was arrested Wednesday for allegedly molesting an underage girl.
A statement from the Hall County Sheriff’s Office said Jose Eolegario Contreras Diaz De Leon, age 53, was arrested after an investigation that started in October.
“According to the initial investigation, Contrereas Diaz De Leon committed the crimes against the female victim, who was under the age of 16, at his residence near the west side of Gainesville,” the sheriff’s office said. “The abuse occurred between 2017 and 2018.”
Authorities added that the abuse was first reported to law enforcement by a Georgia Division of Family and Children Services representative. Contreras Diaz De Leon reportedly knew the victim before the crimes.
Contreras Diaz De Leon is being held in the Hall County Jail without bond as of Thursday afternoon, December 4, on charges of aggravated sexual battery, child molestation and an immigration hold.
