HOMER, Ga. — A Franklin County man has been found guilty of rape following a four-day trial in Banks County Superior Court.

A jury convicted 31-year-old Dennis Garren Orr on October 30 after hearing testimony from the victim, three other sexual assault victims of Orr’s, law enforcement officers, and additional witnesses. The trial was presided over by Chief Judge William Oliver.

According to the Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office, the rape occurred on January 31, 2023, and a Banks County Grand Jury indicted Orr on May 8, 2023. Orr took the stand in his own defense during the trial.

Sentencing is scheduled for November 12. Orr faces up to life in prison.

District Attorney George Christian commended the Banks County Sheriff’s Office, particularly Investigator Michael Alford, for their “stellar investigation,” and expressed appreciation to the victims and the jury.

“We are grateful for the fortitude of the victims and for the jury who paid close attention to the extensive evidence, applied the law, and ultimately rendered a just verdict,” Christian. He added that he hopes the outcome “will serve to encourage sexual assault victims to come forward, which sadly many, if not most, are reluctant to do.”
