DAHLONEGA, Ga. – Dawson County is playing its best ball at the right time as the Tigers kept their playoff hopes alive with a 31-14 upset win over Lumpkin County Friday night.
The Tigers jumped out to a 14-0 lead as Brody Sorenson found Cash Watkins before Cody McBrayer ran in from 18 yards out. Nolan Matthews answered on the next Indian drive with an 80-yard touchdown and, after a Jacob Felkai field goal, a 72-yard sprint to trim the halftime deficit to 17-14.
It was all Dawson in the second half as Sorenson and McBrayer each had rushing touchdowns to seal the game.
The Tigers were 8-of-12 on third downs. McBrayer had 205 rushing yards and two touchdowns, while Sorenson threw for 158 yards. For the Indians, Matthews had 264 rushing yards on 24 touches.
