BUFORD, Ga. – Buford found themselves in a dog fight early but pulled away from Newton Friday night to advance to the GHSA Class 6A quarterfinals by a 31-14 final score.
After a scoreless first quarter, Tyriq Green got Buford on the board on a 4-yard run to take a 7-0 lead, which would remain the score going into halftime.
The Wolves picked it up in the second half as Dayton Raiola found Ashton Thomas for a 19-yard touchdown to double the Buford lead. After a Newton touchdown just one minute later, Raiola led a drive that culminated in a 8-yard run by the quarterback to take a 21-7 lead.
In the fourth, Buford hit a 39-yard field goal before Ty Green sprinted in from 13 yards out to seal the win.
Raiola was 12-for-18 for 143 yards in the win. Green had 61 rushing yards and his two touchdowns.
Buford will play host to Douglas County next week in a rematch from earlier this season.
