VALDOSTA, Ga. – A game that was close for a long time ended up as a blowout Friday night as Buford punched their ticket to the Class 6A championship game with a 39-7 win over Valdosta.

The Wolves started off the scoring with a field goal from Andrew Ivaniciuc midway through the first quarter. The score remained there until the final two minutes of the first half when Jameer Cantrell broke free for the first touchdown of the game to make the halftime score, 11-0.

Valdosta answered right out of the halftime break with a touchdown less than 90 seconds into the second half to cut the lead to 11-7, but Buford went back to work, scoring with 3:05 left in the third on a 6-yard run from Dylan McCoy to extend the lead back to 11 points.

The fourth quarter was all Buford as Tyriq Green found the endzone to push the lead out further. Four minutes later, Torre Costin sprinted across the entire field for a touchdown, and Brian Stokes finished the scoring less than two minutes later with a rumble in from seven yards out.

Buford finished the game with four interceptions, including two on the Wildcats’ final two drives of the night. The final one came in the endzone as Valdosta looked to put points on the board in the final seconds.

The Wolves will play Carrollton for the 6A title on Tuesday, December 16 at Mercedes Benz Stadium in downtown Atlanta.
