A raging fire Tuesday afternoon in Stephens County destroyed a home and damaged surrounding structures, while leaving the occupants homeless.
Social media posts from several northeast Georgia area agencies Tuesday evening showed the heavy fire damage within a structure along South Panther Creek Road near North Black Mountain Road. Stephens County’s 911 center received the initial call for aid after 1:45 p.m., which initially sent out first responders from Eastanollee, Shiloh, Carnes Creek and Stephens County’s respective fire departments, along with Stephens County Sheriff’s Office deputies.
Upon arrival, the heavy fire and smoke presence forced a call for mutual aid from Toccoa Fire Department and Habersham County’s Emergency Service units.
Safety crews needed several hours to contain and eventually douse the fire, but not before the home on the property was destroyed and other structures on site sustained heavy damage. While no injuries were reported, the cause for what triggered the fire has not been publicly released at the time of publication.
