GILLSVILLE, Ga. — Fire damaged a storage building at a popular Northeast Georgia floral supply shop Monday morning, prompting an evacuation.

Witnesses say employees quickly alerted shoppers inside Sims Pottery in Gillsville, urging everyone to leave as the fire broke out.

“It was so hard to watch one of their storage buildings destroyed,” said shopper Tina Queen. “Thankfully, everyone was ok.”

Queen said all the employees at the store on GA 323 worked hard to save what they could. The fire was contained to a single building.

“We are open for business and working full force!” Sims Pottery posted on social media.

Community members expressed support for the Sims family, a longtime local business, as they begin cleanup and recovery efforts.

The cause of the fire has not been released.
