The Boys and Girls Clubs of Lanier is getting a $190,000 federal grant for use in purchasing two vans.
Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.) facilitated getting the money, bringing Republicans and Democrats together in a bipartisan effort to deliver funding. The clubs will use the vans for transportation to and from their programming so students can receive tutoring, mentoring, and other academic and enrichment support, Ossoff’s office said. The funding legislation became law on February 3.
“When young people in northeast Georgia have what they need to succeed, the whole community moves forward. That’s what we’re building toward,” said Steve Mickens, CEO of the clubs.
The same legislation also recently enabled a $1.8 million grant to the Salvation Army of Gainesville.
