Showers and thunderstorms will return to Georgia on Thursday and Friday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). “Widespread soaking rains are likely with amounts in the 0.5-to-1.5-inch range possible,” a Wednesday morning advisory says.

The Gainesville area can expect up to one inch. The rain will give way to a rain-free weekend with mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the upper 60s and low 70s.

A 20 percent chance of showers after 3pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 59. West wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Tonight

A 40 percent chance of showers, mainly after 2am. Cloudy, with a low around 51. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Thursday

Showers. High near 62. Southwest wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Thursday Night

Showers likely. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 51. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming northwest after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

Friday

A 30 percent chance of showers, mainly before 1pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 64. North wind around 5 mph becoming southeast in the afternoon.
