I’m not one to keep up with the new generation’s slang, but I feel like this title wrote itself. The MVP of the NFL Dawgs this week was without question former running back James Cook.
Cook had a monster game in which he ran for 218 yards and two touchdowns in a 40-9 blowout victory over the Carolina Panthers. He did this on just 19 carries, averaging 11 yards a carry. His biggest run came in the second quarter, when he took a handoff 64 yards to the house.
It is the most rushing yards of a former Dawg running back in the NFL since Todd Gurley rushed for 208 yards in a game in 2018. Cook currently sits in second place for the most rushing yards in the league. For his performance, he was awarded the most prestigious award in all of football: the NVP award (Nickelodeon Valuable Player). He can proudly display that trophy next to his 2021 National Championship ring.
In Houston, Kamari Lassiter and his Texans picked up a week eight win over the San Francisco 49ers. Lassiter had seven tackles, including one tackle for loss, and he also snagged an interception from former Alabama quarterback Mac Jones. Lassiter is continuing to develop into a top cornerback in the league in his young career. Also in this game, 49ers’ rookie Mykel Williams had three tackles.
Here are some other notable highlights from the week:
- Last Thursday night, the Los Angeles Chargers took down the Minnesota Vikings 37-10 behind a three touchdown effort from quarterback Justin Herbert. His biggest target in this game was Ladd McConkey, who had six catches for 88 yards and a touchdown.
- It was a good day for the Philly Dawgs on Sunday. Nakobe Dean seems to be back in form, as he had five tackles in a 38-20 win over the New York Giants. Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter also each recorded a sack. Kelee Ringo also had two tackles in the victory.
- Despite spending just one up and down season in the Red and Black, quarterback Justin Fields had his best game of the season Sunday as the New York Jets rallied to defeat the Cincinnati Bengals 39-38. Fields, who had received heavy criticism in the week leading up to this game, threw for 244 yards and one touchdown. The Jets emerged victorious hours after news of the passing of Nick Mangold spread across the football world.
That’s all for this week. Tune in next week for more highlights and news of your favorite Dawgs in the NFL!
