As the title suggests, I could simply copy and paste what I have written in these write-ups from previous weeks. For the third consecutive week, quarterback Matthew Stafford threw four or more touchdowns in a game, a first in NFL history. This past Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers, the MVP of the 2009 Capital One Bowl (that’s a deep cut reference) threw for 280 yards and four touchdowns to help the Los Angeles Rams improve to 7-2 and tie the Seattle Seahawks for first place in the NFC West.
He also showed off some dance moves after completing a touchdown pass late in the game. I’ll let you be the judge of his move.
Moving on to the defensive side of the ball, the Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles gave us a low-scoring affair on Monday Night Football. This game featured eight former Dawgs on defense. They each combined for 28 tackles, 2 sacks, and 3 tackles for loss. Linebacker Nakobe Dean had an impactful performance, as he made one of the plays of the game before halftime by forcing a Jordan Love fumble.
Nolan Smith Jr. also made his return from a triceps injury and was a key contributor to the defending Super Bowl Champion’s defense by recording a sack and two quarterback hits. The Eagles went on to win the game 10-7 and improve to 7-2.
Some other Dawgs in the NFL highlights from this past weekend included:
- Atlanta Falcons’ rookie Jalon Walker had another great game on Sunday in Berlin, Germany, against the Indianapolis Colts. Walker recorded six tackles and a sack, giving him three in his last two games. The Dawgs will miss his presence on Saturday against Texas.
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ safety Tykee Smith had a good day against the New England Patriots on Sunday. Smith finished with eight tackles and one tackle for loss. Smith is currently ranked in the top 20 of the NFL’s leading tacklers with 74 on the year. The former West Virginia transfer, who was a significant contributor to Georgia’s 2022 National Championship team, has carved out a solid NFL career thus far.
That’s all for this week. Tune in next time to see which of your favorite former Dawgs make impacts in the NFL.
Go Dawgs!!
