Following the thrilling victory over Ole Miss on Saturday, Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton was the talk of the college football world after his impressive showing. The Tiger king (can we make that his new nickname?) accounted for five touchdowns on the day, four being through the air and one on the ground. This performance was so good that L.A. Rams quarterback and former Dawg Matthew Stafford decided to replicate it the next day in jolly old England.
Despite just 182 yards through the air, the Texan Dawg tossed five touchdown passes to help the Rams earn a convincing win over the Jacksonville Jaguars 35-7 in London. Three of his TD passes went to his new teammate Davante Adams. Stafford now leads the NFL with 17 touchdown passes and continues to strengthen his MVP case.
After his big performance on Monday Night Football last week, running back D’andre Swift had another big game on Sunday. He carried the football 19 times for 124 yards and a touchdown to help the Chicago Bears defeat the New Orleans Saints 26-14. Swift has carved out a nice role for himself in Ben Johnson’s offense and has become a reliable offensive weapon for quarterback Caleb Williams.
The highlight play of the week of former Dawgs in the NFL came courtesy of Tyson Campbell. Campbell was traded from Jacksonville a few weeks ago to the Cleveland Browns. On the first play of the second half Sunday against the Miami Dolphins, Campbell caught a tipped pass intended for De’Von Achane and took it to the house, helping the Browns ultimately secure a 31-6 victory.
It was also a good weekend for several defensive Dawgs on the Green Bay Packers, who won a tight contest against the Arizona Cardinals 27-23. Linebacker Quay Walker led the team with nine tackles, including one sack and a half. Javon Bullard recorded eight tackles, and defensive linemen Warren Brinson and Nazir Stackhouse also saw action. Green Bay was without former first-round pick Devonte Wyatt, as he is still recovering from a knee injury. He did return to practice on Wednesday.
That’s all for this week! Be sure to tune in next week to read about other Dawgs in the NFL who made elite impacts.
Go Dawgs!
