Another week of the NFL season has come and gone, and this week saw some great moments from your favorite former Dawgs.
Wide receiver Adonai Mitchell cemented his legacy with Georgia football by having two of the most clutch touchdowns in program history. In 2021, Mitchell was a rising freshman who became a reliable target for quarterback Stetson Bennett. Their connection culminated when the Mailman hit Mitchell for a 40 yard go-ahead touchdown against Alabama in the championship game. One year later, despite missing almost the entire season due to injury, Mitchell returned for the College Football Playoffs and caught yet another go-ahead touchdown against Ohio State in the Peach Bowl. Even though he would transfer to Texas following this season to be closer to his daughter, Mitchell will forever be a UGA legend in the eyes of fans.
Even though his NFL career has gotten off to a slow start, Mitchell, now with the New York Jets, had his best game as a pro on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons. He caught eight passes for 102 yards and a touchdown to help the Jets earn a 27-24 win over the Falcons.
Out west, one of Mitchell’s teammates proved to the football world why he might just be the best tight end in the NFL right now. Brock Bowers was known for some incredible moments and catches during his time in the red and black, which is why Dawg Nation was not surprised when he made a spectacular catch against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.
Unfortunately for Brock, the Raiders were unable to secure a win against the Chargers and fell to 2-10 on the season. Here’s to hoping Las Vegas will add more talent to the roster to help out Brock.
Here are some other notable performances by former Dawgs over the weekend:
- Buffalo Bills running back James Cook rushed for 144 yards on 32 carries in a win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Cook is now second in the league with 1,228 rushing yards. He appears on his way to a third consecutive Pro Bowl and another playoff spot with the Bills.
- Despite losing on Thanksgiving night, it was a solid day of defense for a trio of former Dawg defenders. Roquan Smith recorded 11 tackles, Malaki Starks added six, and veteran John Jenkins recorded a tackle for loss.
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Tykee Smith came up with a fumble recovery on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals. Smith is quietly putting together a solid season with 52 tackles on the year.
That’s all for this week. Until next time…
Go Dawgs, beat Bama!
