Are your Georgia Bulldogs traveling to the Capital of Clanga, looking to shake off an emotional rivalry win, an early kickoff, and the specter of a look ahead game? Then you could probably use a drink. I can help you with that.
This game very much sets up as an opportunity for the Bulldogs (the good ones, not the weird ones with the cow bells) to beat themselves. Georgia played a full four quarters game against the Florida Gators. And while Mississippi State has struggled defensively they’ve scored 33.5 points per game, more than your Georgia Bulldogs. And there’s every reason to expect that the young men on the field are absolutely aware that Arch Manning and the Texas Longhorns are coming to town next week for a game that’s been circled on the calendar for months.
In short, this game sets up as a sleepy 11:00 a.m. Jefferson Pilot upset special if the Red and Black allow it to be.
But Indont think they will. I think this Georgia team is finding its mojo a bit. And offensively it’s doing that by running the darn ball. All other things being equal, the team that’a more physical in the running game is more likely to win. And this Mississippi State team, next to last in the SEC in rushing defense and giving up 162.1 yards per game on the ground, isn’t physical against the run.
Georgia needs to come out and play bully ball to prevail in this football Bulldog battle. So this week the cocktail with which to toast the Georgia Bulldogs running the ball 38 times for 200+ yards to beat the Mississippi State Bulldogs is…
the Bully Ball.
lIt’s a straight ahead libation that manages to be different while at the same time classic. It’s a twist on the Platonic ideal of cocktails, the Old-fashioned, and I think you’ll enjoy it. You’ll need:
- 1 sugar cube
- a twist of orange peel (no pith, very important)
- 2 ounces of aged rum (not white rum, or flavored rum, this is again incredibly important)
- 3 dashes of orange bitters
- maraschino cherry for garnish
Start by muddling the orange peel with the sugar cube and a tablespoon of water in a rocks glass. Add the rum and bitters. Stir until the sugar is completely dissolved. Then add a large ice cube or two and stir again briefly. Garnish with the maraschino cherry. Enjoy, and…
Go ‘Dawgs!!!
