Chilli and Matthew Lawrence have taken their romance to the small screen, officially calling each other co-workers for the first time.
The couple, who have been dating since 2022, are co-hosting Hallmark+’s new unscripted series Second Chance Love, which gives five couples the opportunity to reconnect in Sardinia, Italy.
The pair were certain they could hack it as colleagues. “It is interesting when you work with family, a loved one in that regard, but I had no doubts that we were going to be just fine because of the way we handle our personal life,” Lawrence, 45, tells PEOPLE. “There’s nothing but love and respect, so I was not worried at all, and I think it went off pretty darn good.”
“It’s funny that we can work together and everything just flows naturally,” adds Chilli, 54, with Matthew calling it “a great experience.”

The show’s couples range in age from their 30s to their 70s and dated between five and 40 years ago. Their two-week journeys will be filled with nostalgia, emotional reflection and intimate dates. Led by the TLC singer and the Boy Meets World star, they’ll revisit their pasts, confront unfinished business and build new memories.
The lovebirds felt this was the right project for them because it aligned with their values as a couple. “I think we both felt secure in that Hallmark was going to make a very wholesome good product,” Matthew explains. “That was the most important thing to us. We didn’t want to be a part of a show that was salacious in any way, shape or form. We just wanted to be a part of something that was feel good and that everybody-”
“That the whole family could watch,” Chilli interjects. “And this show is that.”

Chilli and Matthew learned a lot from the show’s contestants, including the importance of closure in relationships.
“Not one couple is the same, but what they have in common is they have this past and they want to get together and see if something is going to take off again or not,” Chilli notes. “You just need that closure because it’s always like, well, what if, or if I had said this, and all this kind of stuff.”
“It’s that wondering I think that will always keep eating at you, and I think it’s great for people to be able to go back, see if it’s something that they should spend their time thinking about or not,” Matthew continues. ” Some things are maybe meant to go forward and never were meant to end, and then certain things are probably just better left in the past. You shouldn’t hold onto those sort of things, and I think we all do.”

The project has given the couple confidence to work on future opportunities together. “I was like, wow, we can work together,” Chilli exclaims. “Because you don’t always know if you can do that. And if you can’t, that doesn’t mean that you’re not supposed to be together. Some people just can’t work together or mix that business in, but we seem to be able to do that with ease actually.”
The pair became Instagram official in late 2022 with a post of them dancing in matching pajamas and lip-syncing to A-ha’s “Take on Me.” That same day, Chilli wrote, “God has perfect timing,” Chilli wrote at the time. “Never early and never late. It takes a little patience and a lot of faith.”
“We look out for each other too,” the singer adds about working together. “If he can tell I’m getting hungry or something or if I need some water or vice versa, we look out for each other.”
“It’s important,” Matthew points out.
