Hulu’s breakout football comedy Chad Powers is officially heading back to Georgia. In December, the streamer officially confirmed the series will return for a second season, and production is already moving faster than expected. Filming for Season 2 kicked off today, January 5, right here in Georgia. Background casting is being handled by Alessia Hartigan.
While Hulu hasn’t announced a premiere date for the new season, the accelerated production schedule suggests fans won’t be waiting long to see what happens next after Season 1’s cliffhanger ending.
A Quick Renewal — and a Quick Turnaround
Starring Glen Powell in the lead role, Chad Powers wrapped its first season as a six-episode run that left plenty of room for more story. Despite the show only being renewed in early December, the creative team appears eager to keep momentum going rather than letting the series sit on the sidelines.
That urgency could mean a significantly shorter gap between seasons than fans typically see from streaming originals.
What Is Chad Powers?
The series premiered in September to coincide with the start of college football season. It follows Russ Holliday (Powell), a former star quarterback whose promising career implodes after a disastrous mistake that costs his team a national championship and sparks public backlash.
With his future in football seemingly over, Holliday reinvents himself using elaborate prosthetics and makeup, adopting the alias “Chad Powers.” Under this new identity, he earns a tryout with the fictional South Georgia Catfish, a struggling program in desperate need of a quarterback. As “Chad Powers,” Holliday becomes a breakout star — all while desperately trying to keep his real identity hidden.
The series is inspired by a viral ESPN+ sketch featuring NFL legend Eli Manning, who famously went undercover in disguise to try out for Penn State’s football team under the same name.
Season 1’s Deep Georgia Roots
Season 1 leaned heavily into Georgia’s real-world football landscape. Filming took place during actual college football games, adding authenticity — and complexity — to the production.
Key Georgia locations included:
- Sanford Stadium at the University of Georgia, used as the Catfish’s home field
- Morehouse College, featured in campus and student-life scenes
- Center Parc Credit Union Stadium, Georgia State’s football stadium (formerly Turner Field)
That approach required the production to work around live games, real crowds, and tight scheduling — something that may be harder to replicate this time around.
A Scheduling Challenge for Season 2
Because Season 2 wasn’t officially greenlit until December and didn’t begin filming until January, the show missed the window to shoot during the 2025 college football regular season, which has largely wrapped.
If the series insisted on filming during live games again, it would likely need to wait until the 2026 football season, potentially delaying production by several months. But based on comments from the creative team, that doesn’t seem to be the plan.
A Faster Return Than Expected
Co-creator Michael Waldron recently made it clear that the goal is to avoid a long hiatus between seasons.
“We want to make it on time, on schedule,” Waldron told Decider. “I don’t want this to be one of the shows that people have to wait forever for. It’s only six half-hour episodes. It’s not a long thing. We don’t want to withhold any longer than we have to.”
Based on those comments, Decider speculated that Chad Powers Season 2 could arrive sometime in 2026, sooner than many fans expected given the logistical hurdles.
What Comes Next for Filming
One possible workaround could be college football spring games, which typically take place in April and still offer stadium access, uniforms, and crowds — albeit on a smaller scale. Another option would be recreating game-day environments through controlled shoots, visual effects, or closed-set stadium filming. But who knows.
