Big Win for Pake South at the Bassmaster Open on Sam Rayburn Reservoir
Abu Garcia and Fenwick Pro Pake South had a good time on Sam Rayburn Reservoir, taking home the win at the Bassmaster Open there with a monster final two days on the Texas reservoir. Pake South’s total for three days of fishing on the impoundment came out to a record-setting three-day total of 96 lb. 15 oz. Starting off with good momentum early on day one, South weighed in 28 lb. 1 oz of fish to end the day in 5th place. For Day Two, South brought in a monster bag of 34 lb. 4 oz. to hop up the leader board and take 1st. Finally, on Championship Saturday, South sealed his win with his largest weigh-in for the tournament with a 34 lb. 10 oz., anchored by a 10 lb. 15 oz. largemouth. South’s three-day total of 96 lb. 15 oz., giving him a substantial 15 lb. 14 oz. margin over 2nd place, one of the largest margins of victory in Bassmaster Open history.

Heading into the tournament, South was short on practice time. He was coming to Sam Rayburn from a top 10 finish at the Bassmaster Elite Series event on Lake Martin the week prior. But the lack of practice time worked in his favor, allowing him to stay fluid and able to adjust to match the conditions as they changed throughout the three-day tournament.
“I drove through the night and got into town around 4 a.m. Monday morning after fishing the Elite on Lake Martin the day before,” South said. “The boat wasn’t even charged, so I actually slept in until noon to let it charge up, which only left me about a day and a half of practice. I know where they like to live on that lake, but I didn’t really have a great practice. I knew I was going to have to run some new water and figure it out on the fly.”
